2020 was so long that when I finally reconnected with one of my regular families that I photograph every year, I found out their family of 3 was now a family of 4. 🎉Since we missed the opportunity to do a newborn session for little brother because of COVID restrictions, we did the next best thing and met up for a one-hour session outdoors before the holidays. Rather than meet at one of the crowded parks this time of year, I’m happy this family trusted my something-different location recommendation when I asked them to meet me in my parents’ Davie neighborhood. The ridge I grew up exploring backs up to Tree Tops Park and has similar beautiful tree vibes with tons of hanging moss, oak trees and private trails.

This was such a fun session. Horse-obsessed Ella recently turned 2 & to celebrate, her parents planned a special afternoon at Bar-B-Ranch in Davie, with Peaches the pony... & I got to be there to document it. We had great hospitality at the ranch, which looked like an amazing place for all kinds of horse & pony riding. Ella was so excited to be there, she hopped right up onto Peaches right away, 100% comfortable with all of the animals and never stopped loving on her parents, which made my job to capture all the cuteness, pretty darn easy.Planning an activity that is special to your family is the perfect way to create natural, candid, meaningful photos. Part of my 'what to expect' conversation I have at the beginning of every session includes telling whoever is in front of my camera to just enjoy each other in every way possible & I'll just be there to capture it. This family seemed to understand my approach before even meeting, which resulted in a super fun & relaxing family afternoon (that happens to come along with a collection of photos to remember it by).[tg_masonry_gallery gallery_id="9688" layout="wide" columns="4"]

It wasn't until we pulled into the parking lot of Marando Farms & Ranch in Davie that we realized it was the old Batten's Farm. Growing up not too far away, I have a lot of memories, going to Batten's to get milkshakes & visiting the cow out back (Bessie? I keep hoping the name will come back to me). At just 18 months old, Morgan loved visiting with the animals at the this petting zoo.... I think her favorite was the turtle but she was the goats' favorite - they constantly followed her around. This kid has zero fear - literally getting face to face with animals 20X her size, not to mention trying to get as close as possible to every single animal there. We skipped the pony rides this time, since she's a little too young, but we'll be back!

I met this beautiful, recently-turned family of 4 for a quick mini session in Davie, at Bamford Sports Complex - right down the road from where I grew up. Now although the entire sports complex of endless baseball & soccer fields didn't exist when I was a kid, we found ourselves in a nice shady spot in front of the original (& unchanged) community center, where I remember taking dance classes & swimming lessons many moons ago. There is something refreshing about finding myself shooting photos for local families in the very area where I was raised. Pine Island Park was very welcoming & quiet - a nice change from the overcrowded parks I've been shooting at, where there is a photography session every 100ft. I don't know how I've gotten so lucky with so many adorable kids to photograph, but they sure make my job easy!

For being new to shooting photo sessions at Robbins Lodge Park in Davie, I sure have gotten comfortable there fast. For the 3rd blog post in a row, these family mini sessions also took place at Robbins, which continues to provide a beautiful setting & gorgeous light for family photos. This past Sunday were families of boys of all ages & a mix of first-timers & old friends... I had a great time laughing with & getting to know these families (including family pup, Marley!). I've known this beautiful mother of 2 my entire life... & that isn't any bit an exaggeration since our own mothers were friends long before the 2 of us were born. This is the third time I've had the pleasure of shooting holiday photos for her & her family, but the first time their dog, Biggie, joined in on the fun (who seemed to be a pro on posing for the camera). Although I've gotten used to 5-year-old Ryan always keeping me on my toes for these sessions with his huge personality - I couldn't help but laugh at all his different facial expressions while sorting through the photos. Ava, who is now 7, is a bit of the opposite with a very calm, quiet demeanor - but also super affectionate & loving. Another year has flown by, which means it was time for my annual catch up with this great family of 4. Always trying to change things up a bit, this year we held our photo session at Robbins Park in Davie & avoided any fully-clothed ocean swims like last year. Jordan, who is now 6 & a pro at these yearly sessions, continues to provide his own creative direction, suggesting poses & locations to go to next. 1 Year Old, Family Photo Session + Cake Smash | Tree Tops Park Photographer
My photography-love-affair started with this amazing family a few years ago, when little Avery was first born. Over the last 3 years, I've had the privilege to not only see her grow up into a beautiful little girl, but also have the same opportunity to capture her little brother, Jackson, since his newborn session a year ago. Last time we got together, we were joined by 8 of their other close family members, spanning 3 generations with a big pre-holiday group session on Hollywood Beach. But being that this was their last session in their (second) baby's first year package, this one was all about Jackson and his first birthday. We started the session at Tree Tops Park for some fun with their wagon, but couldn't resist continuing it in their backyard for some fun cake smash & clean-up photos! Always a blast hanging with this fam - thanks for letting me continue to create lasting memories for your family!
